High camp (18100ft) on Hkakabo Razi. @hilareeoneill and I spent 4 nights on this icy ridge with barely enough room for our tent while @Cory Richards, @renan_ozturk, and @md_jenkins were on their summit push for 2 of those nights. While we tried to appreciate our breathtaking position above the clouds between Tibet and Myanmar; it was difficult to not feel trapped and isolated up there all by ourselves. We were constantly battered by terrifying winds that seemed to shake our sanity; the frigid temperatures left us shivering endlessly, and we ran out of food. I can honestly say they were some of the most difficult days I've experienced, in the mountains or otherwise. Unable to move or even get out of the tent for hours on end leaves a lot of time for doubt, worry, and fear to creep into one's headspace. But the forced stillness also provided a source for personal reflection not often confronted in daily life, where escape and distractions are easily discovered. I've realized that these types of experiences are very much a part of alpine climbing, just as much as the actual climbing, and maybe just as valuable.
