Photo: @Robert Clark | Sipping in water from his back, an Australian lizard, the #ThornyDevil, demonstrates it ability to move water to it’s mouth in channels that lye between it scales through capillary action. Scientist hope to develop similar technologies to capture water in the dry regions of the earth. The picture was photographed for @ナショナルジオグラフィック at the #AliceSpringsDesertPark for a story on #Biomimetics, the inspiration of nature on design. One of the most well known examples of this science is Velcro, which was inspired by a cocklebur in a dogs fur. The Swiss engineer George de Mestral found small hooks on the end of the cockleburs that clung to his dogs fur after a walk in the woods, thus the invention of #Velcro.
