Unbelievable morning. Went out dancing last night and didn't want the night to end so somehow @patrickbeke and I ended up driving across the entire island at 6am looking for adventure. Went off-roading on the north shore and came across the most magical, magical place. A huge cave, partly underwater, with giant waves crashing over the rugged rocks. I swam in my dress for a good hour, letting wave after wave wash over me. We climbed all the way inside and sat there on watching the sun rise over the horizon as golden light glittered across the surface of the ocean. Talked about life and death. Death, mostly. Held on tightly to the rocks every time a particularly huge push of water came through. Almost got smacked down a few times and have a few bruises to show for it, but we managed to hold on. Life is like this. You have to allow each wave to wash over you. Sometimes you hold on tight enough and you manage to stay put where you are. Other times you lose your grip, get pushed to the bottom and pray for a break in the swell so you can get back to the surface again. Sometimes we come out battered and bruised. Other times we make our way to the shore, our long dress clinging to our body, every bit of make-up washed off our face and with eyes red from salt water, smiling. Making it through is beautiful. It's all we can do; let go or hold on and hope for the best. With time we learn to navigate these waves and with practice we'll even figure out how to hold our breath long enough for it all to pass. Maybe with time we can stop letting the waves dictate our lives and actually become the rock. Solid. Stable. Grounded. Now the waves will move around us, every caress shaping us and smoothening our rough edges. I held on and let go this morning. I swam into the current. I was scared but I did it anyway. Banged my legs against the reef and swallowed a lot of saltwater and I still have seaweed in my hair but I made it to the other side and saw the sun ascend through the mist and cried and laughed and gave thanks to the loves and lives that I've lost. I still haven't slept. We all need more adventure in our lives. I intend to keep on creating it, everywhere I go.
