Photo by Carsten Peter @carstenpeter: Glad to hear that Johann, the caver injured in the #Riesending cave is doing well. The #cave #rescue from the deepest and longest cave in #Germany was one of the biggest international missions in history and 12 days after his severe injury by rockfall the caver was successfully rescued from a depth of almost 1000m. Some years ago he helped me to cover this technically challenging cave. He is one of the pioneers in exploring of this vast system and initially I was very worried if not sceptical if a rescue in these dimensions is possible at all. The rescue team from Germany, Switzerland, Kroatia, Italy and Austria led a bravourus fight with narrow #canyons, deep pits, waterfalls, and difficult traverses.
