It was love, and country borders couldn’t stop it for Michelle Schiffler of the U.S. Women’s Sitting Volleyball Team and her husband Alex, now captain of Germany’s men’s sitting team. “I met my husband four years ago at the Sitting World Championships in Edmond, Okla. We got married exactly eight months later.” She now resides and works in Germany teaching biology. However, when Team USA calls, she has her priorities. “Whenever a big competition or training camp comes up, I travel to be with my teammates.” And this weekend she is playing for gold-medal contending U.S. Women and he for the German squad in the same Sitting Volleyball Championships. “It feels really good.
