As a young girl, photojournalist and @TEDFellow Kitra Cahana dreamed about running away from home to live freely on the road. Now, she follows modern nomads into their homes — boxcars, bus stops, parking lots, rest stop bathrooms — using photography to offer a glimpse of their lives. “The word ‘hobo’ conjures up a weathered old man covered in coal,” she says, “but these photographs portray a community swirling across the country, fiercely alive and creatively free, seeing sides of America that no one else gets to see.” To see more of Kitra's photos, watch the talk at on.ted.com/nomads and follow her at @kitracahana.
