World's largest pistachio statue in Alamogordo, New Mexico. The deserts of the southwestern United States account for roughly 25 percent of the world's pistachio production !! Pistachios are mostly grown in southern California and other portions of the southwestern United States where the climate favors tree growth and nut production. #Pistachio trees grow best and produce the most nuts in an arid semi-desert climate with long, dry, hot summers, low humidity and cool but not frigid winters. During the growing season, pistachio trees thrive on heat. Summer temperatures of around 100 degrees Fahrenheit produce large quantities of the best nuts. Photo by Mike Theiss @ExtremeNature
