Photo @pedromcbride (Pete McBride) Everest's Khumbu Icefall stretches from 18,000 - 21,000 feet and is notoriously the most dangerous part of the south side climb. Every year a team of Sherpa guides, known as the "Ice Doctors" build the route through this maze of frozen chaos so Western climbers can find safe passage avoiding icefall and avalanche. Sadly, 12 Sherpa died today while opening the route for this year's climbing season. An #unpublished image from a story I did on these brave men recently. Prayers to their families and loved ones.
