Fact or fiction? Australian pro surfer Derek Hynd made a name for himself riding some of the first thrusters at Jeffrey's Bay, South Africa during the 1980s. A believer in the tri-fin setup, Hynd honed his skills on J-Bay's long lines, riding a record-setting wave from Boneyards through Supertubes, Impossibles, Tubes and The Point, a full-throttle ride that lasted 2:05 minutes and carried him a half mile in distance.
