The WINNER of our December Fan Photo Contest on Instagram is @ThurstonPhoto. Our judge this month was Jimmy Chin (@jimmy_chin). Here is what he had to say about the winning image: “This image has power. It's dynamic. There are a lot of wave images out there, but this is a particularly beautiful one caught at the perfect moment, with great light, great lines and great composition. I also chose it because I imagine it was a difficult shot to get. Besides having to understand waves, needing a water housing and the fact that the lip of the wave is about to come down on the photographer, there was a lot that went into the making of the picture. I enjoy seeing images where I know there was a lot involved in the set up / access / being in the right place at the right time to get the image, but still required a bit of luck and serendipity to have it all come together. That's true of images like this wave shot or any brilliant shot whether it's war, fashion, portraiture etc where you have to create a bit of your own luck and you get those slightly unexpected but decisive moments....” @Thurstonphoto is also the winner of a @ThinkTankPhoto Turn Style 5 Camera Sling Bag.
