Two weeks ago I flew over the #GrandCanyon on assignment for PBS and @ナショナルジオグラフィック TV and snapped this scene, nearly identical to a shot I took 5 years ago for my book "The Colorado River, Flowing Through Conflict". In 1906, President Roosevelt looked over the south rim (right of photo) and said, "Leave it as it is. The ages have been at work on it and Man can only mar it." Thanks to his vision, the canyon itself remains essentially 'unmarred', but sadly the mighty Colorado coursing a mile deep in the basement of this arid world, has dwindled due in part to a growing orchestra of #thirst in the southwest and beyond. #aerial @thephotosociety #water #conservation @natgeocreative
