"The boardwalk was the lifeblood of Rockaway." A year later, the Rockaway boardwalk foundations are a daily reminder of the destruction caused by Sandy. While it functioned as a protection against storms in the winter months, the boardwalk connected all the people here from every walk of life. A community built on it's connection to the beach and the ocean feels lost when a piece of it is destroyed.

Plans for rebuilding the boardwalk are currently under way. Michelle and many of the locals are hopeful but remain skeptical of what the new boardwalk will be. In their hearts, they know it can never be the same.
