I’ve had some time to think about what it means to be awarded with the Heather Farr Perseverance award. To be frank, I am not the only person that should be bestowed with this amazing honor. As many of you in this room know, it takes a team to successfully become a world class professional athlete. Theres partners, husbands, wives, caddies, coaches, and the countless other individuals that show up in your corner to help you reach your fullest potential. My 15 year career on the LPGA would not have happened without the guidance and support of numerous people who lifted me on their shoulders so that I can succeed and follow my dreams. When Grace became ill and permanently disabled, the world was suddenly a very lonely place. Everyone including myself had no idea what to say or do. That memory still clangs inside me like an iron bell. But at that moment, our support system multiplied 10 fold. Our LPGA family and friends dug into the trenches with us and quite literally lifted our family out of the mud. Somehow, while we were dead in our despair we started to breathe again. You guys gave me the tools to not end my life when I felt like life had ended. Although my playing career has come to a distinct end, the roots of the friendships I’ve made through my 15 years on tour remain strong, unwavering and omnipresent. Your support is why i’ve persevered and am able to be present amongst this distinguished group of people and get the honor of kissing my girl goodnight. Life still holds so much goodness. Caring for a disabled child is absurdly hard and profoundly sweet. My grief still to this day remains tremendous, but my love is bigger because our little girl continues to shine, unimpeachably.
