I started going to the driving range after school when I was 11 years old. There was a big grassy slope behind the hitting bays and I used to roll myself down the hill while my brother and dad hit balls on the range. The only thing I was interested in was making a flower crown for my mom so I could give her another one when we got home, one every day.

As my 12th birthday approached, making flower crowns started to lose its luster. I moseyed on over to my dad and asked if I could hit a few. He set a range ball on a tall rubber tee and gave me basics.. grip, stance and posture. Dad always liked to tell people later on that my first shot was a 4i that flew high and straight 150 yards down the range (which i’m thinking was a bit embellished, because never in my life have I hit a soaring 4iron). I became hooked on that feeling of a well struck golf shot soon after.

Golf was the tempestuous ride that took me to soaring heights and very low lows. It took me to places I could’ve never imagined. It gave me a shot at college even though I left prematurely. It taught me lessons on life and provided me a source of income and independence. Some days on the course left me nonplussed and wondering why I play this damn game, but each and every day presented a new opportunity for me to try again and I freaking loved that.

But the thing I love most about my career in this game are the people I’ve met along the way. I never had the chance to win on tour, but looking back on my 15 years chasing a little white golf ball around the world I realize that I in fact did win. Multiple times. Thank you all for the exquisite memories. I’m a lucky gal to have had the chance to re-write the ending. Starting on a blank page will be scary because of the limitlessness of its potential and the looseness of its boundaries. But I am lucky enough to move on with the closure that I needed.

Golf, I’ll love you forever. You’re a fickle mistress but I’ll always come back. The sun has set on my career, but I look forward to watching the shadows grow long on a sunset 9 again soon. ❤️
