‘Tis the season of gratitude, not attitude, and one of our penguins didn’t get the memo. 🐧

This month’s perfect penguin is pint-sized Dot. You won’t be able to find a better ambassador for her species than the delightful Dot! She welcomes groups to the behind-the-scenes penguin viewing area and makes a connection with everyone she meets. Dot has inspired countless visitors to learn more about African penguins and the conservation work being done for the species. For her charm and welcoming demeanor, Dot is the good penguin of the month.

The penguin who needs improvement is Harlan. Harlan has been on a slippery slope of bad behavior. He’s not a very patient penguin and lets his care team know by purposely snapping at their legs when entering the habitat to feed. If he doesn’t get fed quickly enough, he grabs their hand forcefully with his bill and lets them know he means business. We don’t want to encourage this behavior, so he’s ignored when he’s acting rudely and only gets a fish when he waits patiently like everyone else. 🐟
