How cool are these two! 💕

@nationalmallnps recently spotted two white squirrels frolicking on the National Mall in Washington, DC. Eastern gray squirrels come in various colors and often display a mix of gray, brown, black and cinnamon fur – but only occasionally white. They can be white for one of two reasons:

1) The first is a genetic anomaly. These squirrels have dark eyes and can grow small patches of dark fur on their white coats.

2) Even more rare are albino squirrels, who cannot produce any pigmentation. Only one in 100,000 squirrels is actually albino. The key to identifying an albino squirrel is to look for their red eyes.

Please help us keep wildlife wild by watching animals from a distance and not harassing or feeding them.
