Exciting news! San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance is now a Center for Species Survival - the first to focus on biodiversity banking. The is in partnership with the IUCN Species Survival Commission (@iucnssc).

As the Species Survival Center: Biodiversity Banking, we’re part of a worldwide network dedicated to preventing species extinction and securing a sustainable future for our planet. This partnership emphasizes the critical role biodiversity banking plays in wildlife conservation.

Our Wildlife Biodiversity Bank, anchored by the incredible Frozen Zoo, stores over 11,000 cell cultures and genetic materials from various species like the blue-eyed black lemur, Przewalski’s horse, and California condor.

This resource supports global scientific collaboration and has even helped us clone endangered species.
