Why are bats often associated with vampires? 🦇🧛🏻‍♀️

Very few bat species feed on blood, but the species in this photo - the vampire bat - does! When European explorers first encountered this species in the Western Hemisphere, they were quick to draw an association with the much-older legend of the vampire.
