Ilana Wilesさんのインスタグラム写真 - (Ilana WilesInstagram)「It’s been almost a year since Mazzy’s Bat Mitzvah, but now that I have a little distance from it, plus the professional photos to share, I was finally able to gather my thoughts and write about the party, which was better than I ever could have imagined. Colorful, fun, whimsical… with just the right amount of fanciness. Mazzy was thrilled with how everything turned out (which was the most important part!), the guests all had a fabulous time and I could not have left that party happier. That all being said, I learned a lot from throwing my first Bat Mitzvah so I want to give you guys all the lessons. The things I wouldn’t change, as well as the things I will do differently next time. It’s a long post, so Substack is making me split it up into parts. Go to the link in my bio for Part One. If you need to catch up, I also put links to everything I have written about the Bat Mitzvah so far— an explainer about the planning process, a post about watching Mazzy read from the torah at her service, the speech I gave at the party, and a video of the all important Bat Mitzvah Montage. I’ve been thinking a lot about why it’s been so hard for me to write this final post about the party, and I think there are two reasons. 1) It was a very emotional day and a lot to process. 2) In my effort to “be present in the moment” I had to let go of documenting the party myself. This was the first major (or minor) event in Mazzy’s life that I have done that. It’s a good thing and the right call (@daverobbinsphotography did a beautiful job of capturing the day), but not having my own perspective made the post a little harder to put together after the fact.
