And so I come to my last post* about my recent week-long holiday on the Isle of Skye, and it has me returning to the @Stein_Inn (I wrote about their majestic fish and chips on here last Sunday, but I’ve added the photograph to this post, too!) as I did so often during my stay. I can’t, actually, believe my luck: first of all at being surrounded by and immersed in such breathtaking – and breathgiving – beauty, shared in the buoyant company of old friends; and then to find ourselves staying a mere ten-minute walk from The Stein Inn. We would have had a lovely time here, anyway, but this made it something profoundly memorable. It felt like finding a home, finding friends; maybe that’s the case with all good pubs or restaurants (and the Stein is a mixture of both, and has rooms, too, though I didn’t investigate) but this place is truly special. And I put that down unhesitatingly to the people who work there. For a start, Charlie, who is both owner and chef, exudes such light, warmth, genuine charm, and a sense of being so completely herself. She isn’t from these parts – indeed, she’s from Cheltenham, which couldn’t be more different! – but has made her home here, and her cooking is a gratefully joyful love letter to Skye. And I just adored everyone there, @chiaramacleann, @philippagel, Holly, Harrison, and Charlie’s lovely son, Jack – all such witty, bright, friendly, kind people, and just excellent company! It’s such a cliché, I know, to say that it felt like family there, but it really did.
