Oh, and there’s one more thing: I ended with a not-so-wee dram of @cubocanwhisky Creation no 4, hitherto unknown to me, but @ionaann suggested it, and how grateful I am to her: it’s got a touch of the sweetness and depth of port, and a breath of brandy about it – which makes sense, as it’s made in port and cognac casks – and is so rich in smoky, aromatic flavour, I couldn’t quite get over it. It’s the perfect after-dinner (I wouldn’t normally go in for such exuberance at lunch) shot. I know I’ve wittered on for too long, even in my cut-down version of events, but I’m afraid enthusiasm made me gabble! Exquisite food in an informal setting: there’s nothing finer I just have an extra thank you to @dannylums for recommending @Birch_Skye, where we had some excellent coffee and scrambled eggs on toast with chorizo a couple of days later, and a plea to @scott_threechimneys to consider a small-batch commercial run of that seaweed vinegar.
