Paddle out for Lahaina ❤️
“It was an amazing turn out. It was the largest paddle out I have ever seen. Not just in the participants, but also for the amount of people we are grieving.”— @mat5o .
Surfers continue to mobilize for Maui. Organizing board drives, giving safe passage, distributing supplies, and even broadcasting the severe, cold-hard-facts of the situation.
The Maui wildfires have been absolutely devastating. It’s the worst natural disaster in Hawaii’s state history and the deadliest U.S wildfire in over a century. Destroying over 2,000 homes and businesses, with a death toll that has surpassed 115, and there’s still 338 people unaccounted for.
There are many ways we can support Lahaina as a surfing community. There are many worthy, private gofundme links for individuals who are helping, which can be found on social media. @mauistrongfundraiser, @alohaunitedway, @mauifoodbank, @mauihumanesociety, and the @ネーブ・キャンベル are a few trusted, well-known charities.
If you’d like to donate a board;
@northshoresurfshop - Haleiwa, Hawaii
@surfboardfactoryhawaii - Kapolei
@hicsurf ( Ala Moana center)
@judlausurfboards is organizing the Lahaina Surfboard Replacement Project. At the moment, organizers are asking for higher-end soft tops ( no Wavestorms,) and good quality shortboards and longboards.
