Today is Woody Guthrie’s birthday who was born in Okemah, Oklahoma on this day in 1912! This piece was created in 2010 as homage to Woody, his music, and activism. Woody Guthrie was a champion of the the least powerful people in society and pointed out class inequality and abuse of power. Some people called Guthrie “socialist,” I call him compassionate. Guthrie was also a big influence for other musical icons like Bob Dylan and my personal hero, Joe Strummer, who called himself “Woody” prior to joining the Clash.⁠
