Gun violence is a serious problem that the NRA neglects to acknowledge, causing more and more American deaths. We live in a country that has largely glamorized the myth of the armed hero who protects the powerless and saves the day. The statistical facts demonstrate that the introduction of a gun into a household is far more likely to result in death by accident, suicide, or homicide from a family member than it is to be used in a justifiable act of self-defense. According to statistics gathered by the CDC, 327 people are shot daily in the United States. I stand with shooting survivors who’ve shown immense strength and bravery through the horrific massacres that continue to occur in our country, and I hope we can stand together against gun violence. It has been frustrating over the years to see little movement on things that most Americans agree on like background checks and closing the gun show loophole.
