アラーナ・イップさんのインスタグラム写真 - (アラーナ・イップInstagram)「Canada Day holds another meaning for my family. 100 years ago on July 1, 1923, the Chinese Exclusion Act was passed into law in Canada. This Act restricted Chinese people from emigrating to Canada and removed many rights of those who had already settled. For many years the Chinese Canadian community referred to July 1 as “Humiliation Day”. The law was finally repealed in 1947. I am proud to be descended from two pioneers of the Chinese Canadian community who fought this racism all their lives. The first is Won Alexander Cumyow, the first Canadian born Chinese person. He is pictured here voting in the 1949 federal election, the first one Chinese people were allowed to vote in. The second is Yip Sang, a prominent businessman in a time where Chinese people were discriminated against heavily.
