Photos by @stephenwilkes | A recent study found that sea ice in the Arctic could disappear in the summer as early as the 2030s. Even if we were to make significant cuts to planet-heating pollution today, the Arctic would still have nearly ice-free summers by the 2050s. It’s a sobering reminder of the rapid effect that climate change is having on Earth. These photographs were taken during the great July melt of 2019 in Ilulissat, Greenland, when 197 billion tons of ice dissolved into the Atlantic Ocean. Swipe to see what happened next.
