This prehistoric looking creature is a spoon head catfish @officialdwazoo. Native to Bolivia, Brazil and Peru, this species calls the upper Amazon Basin home. Very few roads exist in this region making it largely inaccessible to humans - an attribute that has protected this and many other species from the negative impacts of development. Unfortunately, not all catfish are so lucky– many are threatened by overfishing and water pollution in their freshwater habitats.
