At Camp Danielle, OFI's infant nursery, orphan babies often cuddle up together to give each other comfort after the trauma of losing their mothers when they are way too young. They should have had many more years of love and guidance from their mothers, who they would normally stay with for 7-8 years. Young orangutans learn everything they need to know from their Mums, including where to find food, what to eat (and how to eat it), and how to build a sleeping nest. At OFI's Care Centre these little orphans are given a human surrogate mother who care for them as if they were their own.
