“What does a contemporary residential shopfront look like?” This is the question the founders of @architectureofficeft, Liz Tatrintseva and Zach Fluker, asked themselves when they came to overhaul a shabby structure on a one-time high street in east London.

The couple set themselves a brief to build a family home and studio for their practice that paid homage to the building’s heritage and expressed their aim as architects: to create spaces that consider the planet and the wellbeing of their clients, who they often host in the completed spaces. As Liz explains, the most convincing case for your work as an architect is made through the experience of it. “This is what we’re about, distilled into a built piece.”
