“Creating the feeling of entering a spiritual space was at the front of my mind,” says @design.by.samuelross about the scheme of his self-restored Northamptonshire home. Samuel, an “architecture fanatic” (and founder of @acoldwall and @sr.asr.a) says his interiors style is “as stark as physically possible”. If you’re familiar with his utilitarian designs, this won’t come as a surprise. But here, at his house in the East Midlands, it doesn’t feel stark, but serene and sanctuary like.

After the birth of their first daughter, Samuel and his wife, Jennifer, started looking for a family home to put down roots in the countryside. Since 2019, having bought a Victorian house in the town he grew up, the designer has been lovingly renovating its rooms. Taking an exclusive first look at the completed project for Issue No.6 of our magazine, we asked him how it now feels arriving home: “Every time I walk up to it, I have a soft moment of relief. It feels incredible.”
