After years of sifting through journeymen, the Carolina Panthers now hope they have their quarterback for the next decade. In picking Young, the Panthers will be pairing one of college football’s best passers of the last two seasons with an offense-oriented coaching staff built to support and develop a young quarterback. Young won the Heisman Trophy in 2021 and was a finalist for the award last season after throwing for 3,328 yards, 32 touchdowns and five interceptions. He did so at just 5-foot-10, much shorter than the average size for pro quarterbacks. He joins Coach Frank Reich, who this off-season hired Josh McCown as quarterbacks coach, Thomas Brown as offensive coordinator and Jim Caldwell as senior assistant.
