Just a little reminder of the realities of elite athletes life. Yesterday I had my first cortisone injection of my comeback - and I'm surprised I lasted four months before needing one. While most athletes struggle with injuries, the older you get, the more injuries you collect. Managing my body is almost a full-time job on top of my training. I arrive at the pool 40 minutes before I get in, I'm in the gym for 40 minutes before my strength program starts, I stretch and breathe for 20 minutes before I get into bed each night and I have weekly physio, massage and pilates sessions. Over the years I've lost count of the number of procedures I've put myself through to ensure I can continue to find my physical and mental limits - I'm definitely not asking for sympathy, I love being able to represent my country, it is a dream come true. But I'm sharing this as a little reminder that there is a lot more that goes into becoming an Olympian (or any elite athlete) than just training hard. We're often battling invisible injuries as well. It's a good thing to keep in mind before you judge someone on their performance ❤️
