Watching this woman roar her third child into the world was nothing short of sitting at the feet of a guru.

Sitting in silence by her side as she journeyed deeper and deeper inside of herself, I learned more about birth than I have in the past seven years of reading, researching, and asking questions. I have never witnessed such unfathomable trust. It was a ceremony. A healing. An awakening.

The majority of the time it was just us in this dark room, candles flickering and breaths growing fuller. For hours she barely made a sound. Held by her husband and water and something ancient that I don’t have words for other than God. Nature. MOTHER.

Losing sight of space and time on that bathroom floor, I felt the earth shift beneath our feet. And suddenly… There he was.

I will never be the same.
