I won't lie to you, I'm exhausted. It was extremely psychologically challenging to return to the city where I trained, full of mixed memories, and enter an environment full of international gymnastics federations, knowing that not everyone is on our side. Without a doubt, the Safe Sport event itself was a huge step forward, but there are still many steps to take and there are still those involved in Gymnastics who see whistleblowers as troublemakers, or even continue to normalise abuse and side with abusive coaches, sympathetic to their personal connections, "good intentions" or simply in denial about their actions. It was like entering a haunted house, with new occupants inside telling you it's safe to enter and you're welcome to come in, but knowing there are still ghosts of the past and their friends hiding in the cracks and giving you the bitter, cold shoulder... Despite the fear and stress I felt, I'm so glad I went. There were some fantastic speakers and we met some incredible people who I can't wait to work alongside to amplify gymnasts' voices and progress cultural change, including @cath_bishop - pictured with us above. I also got the chance to speak a bit more to those at BG and some fellow members of the advisory boards. The more often and openly that we can talk about the issues our sport faces, the better we can address them - and the closer we can get to achieving that positive, transparent, scientific and athlete-centered sport we are searching for. This will inevitably be a win-win that also leads to even greater success, in terms of both performance heights that can be reached and (more importantly) building generations of strong, healthy and happy individuals, armed with lifelong skills and friendships. When it's done right, sport can offer so much good to the world! 🏆 [CONTINUED IN COMMENTS]」11月4日 5時40分 - jennifer.pinches
