Photo by @junmichaelpark / Performers reenacting royal guards from the Joseon dynasty patrol the perimeters of Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul. The palace, usually bustling with international visitors, is empty these days. The guards are wearing masks embroidered with a pattern of a Dokkaebi, a mythical creature from Korean folklore. Though often mischievous, Dokkaebi are also believed to protect against plagues.
