The White House residence staff numbers 90 people: butlers, chefs, curators, florists, housekeepers, electricians, and others who work in the bowels of the building. The Trump family, one worker said, treated the residence employees like a “24-hour concierge desk.” At the link in our bio, Susannah Jacob talks with dozens of staff members about working in the White House under Trump, the transition to serving the Biden family, and how the staff—whose employment continues across transitions but is never guaranteed—balance their service of the First Family with their long-term loyalty to the house itself.
