Oh these houses of Goa,
Old like those tales you hear from the locals,
With none aware of where they came,
Maybe they came like those thieves across the river,
And just like them,
Lay their remains buried under the grand feasts of Choranchem,
And as you walk through the lanes,
You get a taste of the years gone by,
Still kept around like invaluable artefacts,
In drawing rooms where the whiff of fresh catch carried by the morning breeze
Passes-by like many armies that passed these lands,
Trying to conquer the spirit that still remains,
In those afternoon filled with daydreams,
And midst glasses filled with feni,
Clinking through the evenings filled with laughters,
Giving way to the nights where conversations lead you on paths of the ancestors who once sat on those chairs,
Cleaning the barrels of their guns,
To protect their land,
To protect what’s here,
Beyond what eyes can see,
And yet ever present,
In every warm smile you come across,
While walking through the lanes of Goa.
