A year ago (literally, Feb 2020!) I was meant to be starting this adventure as “Sam” & I complied some. But the spread of COVID across the globe meant, with so many millions of people, my world was upended. While some folks could continue working (thank you #essentialworkers!) & some offices moved into remote or WFH practices (🙌🏼 @workinprogress) tv production is decidedly not a WFH thing. I spent January scrubbing into ORs & in a matter of weeks, bam! Waiting, alongside so many of you, wondering if and when we’d ever get “normal.” We’re still far from it. But twelve months after we hit pause, protocols & testing regimens are in place (thank you to our networks for investing in our safety. Now schools? Can y’all rev up that same energy for our teachers!? 🙏🏼) we are gearing up to work. This means isolation periods. I’m currently on solo day 12, missing home & humans. This means lots of calculated risk done by the humans I work for & a the ask that I trust the process. This means 4 more weeks of doing nothing nonessential, whatsoever. But it also means that the little girl in this photo, who loved to fish in the creek that ran through the center of her little 5,000-person town? This little girl who dreamed about growing up to be surgeon? She’s about to play one. A surgeon who also happens to have grown up fishing with her Dad. It all feels like kismet. Like it did when I found out the show was a go, and walked into my favorite coffee shop to find this sign. A literal sign. It all feels like a gift. One that I’m nervous to open, because I’ll be honest ... I’m scared. But I know we are a team, and that we are prioritizing protocols, so that we can prioritize each other. I know I’m ‘scited (sister @glennondoyle’s word for scared+excited). I’m buzzing with that ‘scitement. I hope we pull it off. I hope I get to make this little girl and our crew proud. I’m praying I do, in fact. And man, she would love this. After a year like this, I’m extra grateful for the joy. Fingers crossed. Crossing everything, really. Here goes ✨」2月6日 11時05分
