Photo by @tobyharriman / Though this traditional fishing method in Inle Lake, Myanmar, is no longer used, you can still see the performers reenacting it for tips. Today, the real fishermen have ditched the large, conical nets for a different technique: They set up nets underwater and then row to a different area while scaring the fish back into the nets. The performances are a win-win-win: Tourists get a glimpse into Inle Lake’s past, the performers have jobs (mostly working for tips), and the real fishermen benefit because the performers keep away the noisy tourist motorboats. One thing the traditional and the modern methods have in common is that the fishermen row with one leg!
