3 of my top tips for making your beauty routine as sustainable as possible with @British Vogue...

1. Less is more:
Less is always more when it comes to products. Start by doing a refresh: clean out your drawer or your cupboard and make sure you get rid of everything that you don’t need anymore, because I find the more we have, the more we buy.

2. Read the label:
Buy the products that have fewer ingredients and that contain ingredients that you know and recognise. It’s surprisingly complex – I’ve had to Google the names of so many ingredients in products and a lot of them, I find, have a really toxic impact on the earth. It’s one thing to not want a product near me – I’m going to be fine – but when I wash that formula down the sink and it gets into the waterways, infecting microorganisms? They’re not fine. They just die. So it’s important to think of the whole life cycle of a product, what happens to it before and after it found you.

3. Know your recyclables:
Not only are @aveda’s products really amazing, but the packaging is made from 85% recycled content from post-consumer. It’s really important to know the distinction between just a recycled plastic that came from a factory floor and recycled plastic that was post-consumer. If it’s post-consumer it means that it was actually diverted from landfill after someone used it, preventing it from going into the ocean, which is hugely impactful. Aveda uses recycled plastic or bioplastic which is derived from sugarcane – it also has a much lower impact.
