To share my feelings of abject horror and rage and sadness and heartbreak in the ways I have — for years, shared them — with you all. To convene us for discussion and a place to get honest. I just ... freeze. It frightens me. It saddens me. I search for the doorway in the words. But it’s not mine I need. It’s his. It’s history and philosophy. It’s ... big. Universal. Because I know this. Equity is enormous. Justice matters. It is the command that burns, white hot too, at the center of the universe. We cannot continue to ignore it for the myriad reasons our society has. We never should have, of course. But this fever pitch? It’s TIME. No convenience. No moderation. Only transformation. The one they called a Marxist and a radical, who is now conveniently anointed in death because, for those who decry the tessellations of his message today, it’s easier to cheer a martyr than a marcher. In his honor we must march. In our actions. We must demand. Because we SEE. No justice, no peace. Because “Justice is what love looks like in public.” And how can peace exist without love?
