Despite being less than 5% of the Earth’s population, indigenous peoples manage or hold tenure over 25% of the world's land surface, and support approximately 85% percent of the globe’s biodiversity. The very biodiversity that keeps this planet alive. By appointing @repdebhaaland to oversee the Department of the Interior we will finally have a Native woman’s voice, representing the voice of Native peoples, leading us on issues that are critical to her people and to all of us. This office has historically disenfranchised the very people who will now, finally, be centered in its decision making. This is a win for all of us, and for the planet. I am overjoyed at this news!
