I rarely watch anything more than once, but this masterful piece of art demanded my attention, filled my dreams, haunted my sleep and nourished my soul. I am a bit of a history geek, and love great historical fiction, but what Regina, Kemp Powers and this phenomenal ensemble accomplished took the genre to another level. As a playwright I felt that rich character-driven dramatic tension and deeply appreciated how it was adapted to the screen; as a black woman I was compelled and convicted by the arguments and conflicts, and as an actor I was in awe of the craft, nuance and richness of humanity this ensemble achieved. Could a piece of work be more timely, more relevant and more richly realized? That I truly doubt. I just want to say “Thank You” to this astounding team of artists.
