Nyimba district is located in Eastern province, with most people depending on agriculture for their livelihoods. The mine was set up over 7 months ago, and is exploring granite. Unfortunately it’s positioning within Soka Village, leaves the people in a vulnerable position. The land was originally used as traditional land, meaning it belongs to the chief as does most of the land in Soka village. The mine hired the area ward councillor as the mine’s Human Resource Manager, which helped pushing its operations through. Besides health risks related to the digging of granite at close proximity to the village, a borehole drilled by the mine that has affected the amount of water the community in this area is receiving. Two months after taking this photographs, @wwfzambia used the imagery to inform an environmental agency to check on the mine. The next day the mine wrote a letter to the Ministry, saying that they finished exploring this site.
