Photo by @amritachandradas / Tring Thi Diem Phuong (left) and her cousin Ly Hang are both seeking husbands. Tring Thi Diem Phuong traveled seven hours from her hometown, Cà Mau, to Ho Chi Minh City only to be rejected by a Singaporean groom. Here they are deciding where to eat after their meeting with the groom.

This assignment is part of a group project with eight women photographers including @davillasana, @ksukuleshova, @miorarajaonary, @mridulaamin, @nicholesobecki, @saiynabashirphoto, and @thanafaroq7 from the Everyday Projects for National Geographic. Our stories look at the impact of women and migration worldwide. My work concentrates on how, over the past decade, more than 50,000 Singaporean men have married foreign women, mostly from Vietnam, Malaysia, and Thailand. The future of foreign brides remains in question, as nine out of 10 permanent residency applications are usually rejected. I look deeper into the migration of Vietnamese women traveling to Singapore with the intention of marriage, documenting their resilience and the vulnerabilities they face.

This story is included in the February issue of National Geographic magazine. Please follow me @amritachandradas for more insight into my work. #everydayprojects #women #migration #everydayeverywhere
