Beyond the summer crowds, the iconic Faraglioni, and the dolce vita lifestyle, there are places on Capri where nature reigns supreme. They can be explored on foot along one of the many paths on the island. One of my favorites covers the surprisingly wild landscape that embraces the Path of the Forts, which winds along the western coast, where the bare rocks alternate with the fragrant Mediterranean scrub and the turquoise waters. The Punta Carena Lighthouse dominates the southwestern end of the island. Behind it rises the cliff crossed by the defense walls built by the British at the beginning of the 19th century to protect Capri and later expanded by the French.
