In the wild, the Cabot’s tragopan shares its home in the hills and mountains of southeast China with the red panda. Their forested homes are often cold and rainy, which is why this species has thick, insulating layers of feathers that keep out cold and moisture. When it comes time to find a mate, males like this one will display for females by spreading their wings and inflating their lappet, a flat overhanging piece of skin on the throat.
