After a year punctuated by a pandemic and unemployment, cities around the world celebrated 2020’s end.
From Sydney to Dakar to Chicago, people eagerly welcomed the arrival of a new year after one filled with sickness and separation. Embracing the theme of 2020, many kept their gatherings small or virtual. Cities locked down or limited festivities. But celebrations — albeit subdued — still continued: The end of a year as dark as 2020 merited celebration.
