Maybe it’s because my Grandmother was always covered in old turquoise treasures that at times came with stories that sounded unreal. She spoke about her time spent in New Mexico with Georgia O’Keeffe riding horses bareback together in the setting sun. I so badly wanted to retrace her steps that I went to stay next to that very ranch just a few short years ago. I hiked the surrounding mountains and camped within a hundred feet of the pastel hills she spoke of. I wanted to live in her story for just a moment and being there took me to a place that was timeless. Jewelry tells a story. It carries with it history and memories and energy. That is one of the reasons why I choose to work with recycled gold as opposed to newly mined gold, because I care deeply about the energy that it carries from one life to the next. That is also why I choose to work with precious metals as opposed to brass, because I want to create things that are cherished. I want to create heirlooms, because heirlooms don’t end up in landfills. Heirlooms are treasured forever.
