As I shovel out from 2020’s first big snowstorm that dumped just over a foot of snow in western New Jersey, I am thinking about last February shooting in Hokkaido, Japan. While my New Jersey neighbors were in a panic in anticipation of the nor'easter barreling toward us, it was business as usual for folks in Hokkaido, the world’s snowiest place, where annual snowfall can average over 200 to 300 inches during the winter season, thanks to frigid Siberian winds crashing into the mountains of northern Japan. Popular Hokkaido ski resorts like Niseko can see up to 500 to 600 inches where snow is expected every day. #winterwonderland #snow #hokkaido #snowscape
